Makahiki Kuilima & Kukini 5K Run
The Makahiki Kuilima is presented by Naepuni Aloha the parent group of Ke Kula ʻo S.M. Kamakau, a Hawaiian medium P-12 education program dedicated to teaching through the Hawaiian language and culture. The purpose of the event is to preserve, perpetuate, educate and share Hawaiian cultural traditions, values, and practices through the emphasis on the Hawaiian language and makahiki traditions. The event is supported by the hard work and dedication of the ‘ohana of Naepuni Aloha, the staff of Ke Kula ʻo S.M. Kamakau, Kai Loa Inc., Kanalu, Turtle Bay Resort, and many, many more supporters from the community.
We are also sharing the day with the 3rd Annual Kūkini Kuilima 5K Run/Walk. A unique race, Kūkini Kuilima, promotes body and mental strength like the kūkini, Hawaiian runners of old. Participants not only need to complete the trail race as quickly as possible but also need to recall and retell the petroglyph signs presented along the course. You may register for the race, here —> https://sites.google.com/site/makahikikuilima/kukini-kuilima
